He holds a PhD in Philosophy and Letters from the Pontifical University of Salamanca, a Master’s in History of the Idea of Europe from the Instituto Superior de Estudios y Derechos Humanos Europeos (Pontifical University of Salamanca) and a degree in Philosophy from the same University. He has a degree in Theology from the Catholic University of Portugal. Specialization/Post-Graduation in Neurosciences at the University of Minho. He has a postdoctoral degree at the University of Oxford/University of Lisbon.
He was a researcher at the Institute of Bioethics of the Catholic University of Portugal and a researcher at the Center for Philosophy of the University of Lisbon and at the University of Oxford. He was also Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Jean Monnet module at the Master in European Studies – Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca – Spain. Visiting Professor at the School of Education – Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo.
Research areas: Bioethics, Neuroethics, Philosophy of mind, moral psychology, ethics, cognitive science, religion, and European Studies. He is the author of numerous articles, some individual books and co-editor of several books.
